Dear Members of WoW and all those interested in the Widewater Lagoon.
I, on behalf on the WoW committee attended a Teams meeting this morning with the Environment Agency and MP Tom Rutland’s team.
The mitigation pipe from sea to land (lagoon) has now been completely cleared.
It is proposed that the grill mesh at the sea end, which was in place to stop larger stones from entering the pipe will be removed to enable a freer flow.
The elbow bend that was installed at the sea end is to be removed and replaced with a stainless steel plate. It is hoped that this will be more effective in facilitating a smoother flow.
A further board will be removed making the water flow more responsive to lower tides and will be set at tides of 5.4 metres and above. The EA are hoping that this will take place at the end of the week and a review of the above measures will be scheduled for three weeks time.
We are all very mindful of other factors that are affecting the lagoon water levels, for example lack of rain fall, high temperatures and low tides. The proposed measured approach will have a more positive effect on the water levels and will be informative for us in regard to the long term maintenance plan required.
I want to sincerely thank the Environment Agency, Tom Rutland’s Team and LPC for their commitment in tackling this complex situation and for sharing their expertise.
Thank you also to everyone who have shown care towards the wonderful Widewater Lagoon.
