The following update as at Friday 18th July was written by our Chair Gill and has also been posted on our facebook page this morning.

Dear Members of WoW and all those interested in the Widewater Lagoon.
As you may be aware, the blockage of silt and shingle in the Mitigation pipe both at the sea and the lagoon end has now been cleared. The Enviroment Agency contractors, ‘OnSite’ were efficient and thankfully caused little disturbance to the area.
There is evidence that sea water has been coming into the lagoon but unfortunately the rate of flow has been disappointing but not unexpected due to the low tides.
I am aware that there have been a few recent posts on WoW’s Facebook page suggesting that as a quick fix, we should have pumped water into the lagoon to top up the level. This was carefully considered but based on advice we received from the Environment Agency, it was clear that this approach could have done more harm than good. (Please click on this link to our website to read a message Tom Rutland MP posted on this subject)
Please rest assured that for the next few months, I on behalf of the WoW committee, Tom Rutland MP and his team, the Environment Agency, Lancing Parish Council and West Sussex County Council will continue to meet every two weeks to monitor the situation and act accordingly, whilst of course being acutely mindful of the delicate balance of the ecosystem and wildlife of the lagoon.
Thank you all for your dedication and passion in caring for this wonderful area.
I will continue to provide updates as and when there is new news and our WoW Website Manager, Dave Hoggen will add these updates to our Facebook page and to the ‘Blog’ section on the WoW website.
Please do not hesitate to contact me as the need arises.
Kind regards
Gill
