The resident Mute Swan pair have successfully raised 4 cygnets this year and soon they will be chased off the lagoon to start their lives in the wild, usually joining the flock of young swans on the river Adur.
Look out for the parents mating in March! It is a beautiful sight starting with alternate head dipping over each others necks. The nest site has already been visited by them and they will start to repair and build it up again ready for the female to lay her eggs in April.
When the new cygnets arrive please put out fresh water for them if you live on the lagoon as they can’t cope with the high salinity of the water at first. Thank you. Fingers crossed for another successful breeding season.
