A huge thank you to WoW committee member Mike Fielder, who recently took on a project to rejuvenate the World of Widewater (WoW) boat.

The boat, appropriately called ‘The Swan’, is situated at the east end of the lagoon, very close to the toilet block and the small WoW booth.  

As you can see from the photo above, It was almost completely buried by weeds when Mike commenced his labour of love.

The job commenced using a Strimmer and when the strimming was complete, Mike cleared the old shingle and weeds from around the boat.

He then put weed killer down and a layer of sand, to help suppress any weeds.

Then the new shingle beach was laid with stones and shingle from the beach.

Following the completion of the laborious strimming, cleaning and painting process, Mike together with his fellow WoW committee member Baz Turner, ingeniously fitted a mast to ‘The Swan’.

The next stage of the process was to procure some new plants for the boat.  Mike went “cap in hand” to the Ferring Country Centre Nursery who very generously donated Begonias, Marigolds (the plants, not the gloves!), Salvias and Gazanias together with some compost.

The final stage, yesterday morning was a planting ceremony with the kind help from another of our committee members Kim Gallaway and her partner Simon.

Thanks again to Mike who worked very hard and has done a brilliant job in restoring the boat to it’s former glory and we hope you will enjoy seeing it the next time you visit Widewater.
