I attended the Widewater LNR management meeting last week and a representative from the EA was also there.
The issues with the mitigation pipe were discussed and subsequently we received the following points regarding action:
- During a confined space inspection last week a large amount of shingle and sand was removed from the control chamber.
- The seaward pipe and the pipe on the lagoon contain a large amount of shingle debris that has blocked the pipe.
- A contractor will be employed to clear the blockage.
- The sand forming around the pipe is impeding the flow into the lagoon. It will be cleared and a narrow channel will be excavated to help sea water to flow into the lagoon.
After this work is completed we should see the water levels rising again.
