{"id":3809,"date":"2025-11-30T10:28:56","date_gmt":"2025-11-30T10:28:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lancingwidewater.com\/?p=3809"},"modified":"2025-11-30T10:28:59","modified_gmt":"2025-11-30T10:28:59","slug":"mitigation-pipe-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lancingwidewater.com\/?p=3809","title":{"rendered":"Mitigation Pipe Progress"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Some very positive news was announced on Friday 28th November:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From Tom Rutland MP:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HUGE WIN FOR THE WIDEWATER LAGOON CAMPAIGN!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have secured agreement from the Environment Agency to REPLACE the mitigation pipe and secure the lagoon&#8217;s future for years to come.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometime between January and March next year, the part of the pipe that runs between the sea and the coastal footpath will be replaced during low tides. The timber supporting the structure will also be replaced, using recycled timber from a coastal site in Bournemouth!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope this comes as welcome news to everyone who loves the Widewater Lagoon and I am so grateful to everyone who has played a role in making this happen, particularly the wonderful World of Widewater committee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>From Andy Manville ( EA):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Widewater Lagoon Mitigation Pipe Refurbishment\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>January to March 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Widewater lagoon provides an important habitat for flora&nbsp;and&nbsp;fauna&nbsp;and is a designated Local Wildlife Site.&nbsp;The Widewater Lagoon&nbsp;mitigation&nbsp;pipe ensues sufficient saline water levels can be retained within the lagoon by allowing controlled flows of sea water to enter when levels fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Essential refurbishment works are&nbsp;being undertaken&nbsp;to replace the seaward length of pipe and supporting timber frame that are in poor condition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Access to the beach at this location will be temporarily restricted whilst the work is undertaken. Thank you for your understanding and apologies for any&nbsp;inconvenience&nbsp;caused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>Gill Purnell, World of Widewater Committee Chair, said:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThe Widewater Lagoon is loved by people not just in Widewater but across Sussex.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cAs someone fortunate to live on the lagoon, I know how much this means to our community.
