Dear members of World of Widewater and all who care about the beautiful Widewater Lagoon,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This morning, I represented the WoW committee at another productive multi-agency Teams meeting focused on the ongoing monitoring and restoration of our cherished lagoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf0a Water Levels on the Rise!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two boards have now been removed, allowing the lagoon to respond naturally to tidal flows of approximately 5.6\u20135.8. The results are incredibly encouraging \u2014 water levels are now estimated to be 80\u201390% restored to their pre-blockage state. A huge step forward!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcb0 Secured Funding for Future Maintenance!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re thrilled to announce that the Environment Agency has confirmed funding for essential maintenance of the mitigation pipe for both 2025\/26 and 2026\/27. This ensures continued care and attention for the lagoon\u2019s health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcf9 CCTV Insights & Surprises<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re currently awaiting the CCTV footage from the recent pipe clearance. Interestingly, less shingle and stone were found than anticipated \u2014 a promising sign for future flow stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcca New Volunteer Monitoring Initiative<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re excited to welcome a dedicated volunteer who will be regularly monitoring water flow and salinity, identifying trends, and providing visual data to help us act quickly if issues arise. His background in salt formations and sediment flow is a fantastic asset. WoW will be funding a Stream Flow Monitor to support his work \u2014 a great example of community-powered science!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf31 Help Us Keep the Pipes Clear!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you’re passing by the outlet pipes and spot any weed caught on the grill, a quick removal would be a big help. Every little action contributes to the lagoon\u2019s wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2705 Encouraging Signs All Around<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consensus from today\u2019s meeting is clear: the lagoon is recovering beautifully. We\u2019ll reconvene in two months to continue tracking progress and planning next steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
